WHEN SECURITY BECOMES PART OF THE DESIGN — RETHINKING THE DISPLAY CASE

For a gold tea service from the collections of the State Palaces, Gardens and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (SSGK MV), Sehner created a bespoke security display case that appears to float in front of the wall. A fully concealed steel structure supports the case, while the integrated technology remains discreetly in the background.
The task was to protect an object of great historical significance for the long term without allowing it to disappear behind technology. The solution is a bespoke security display case that appears to float in front of the wall. Measuring approximately 990 × 790 × 800 mm, the case is supported by a solid steel structure concealed entirely behind the wall covering. Only the display case and the exhibit remain visible.
The installation sequence was crucial: the supporting steel structure had to be fully aligned before being concealed by the wall covering. Only then could the display case be installed. The security and climate-control systems are integrated into the structure so discreetly that they remain invisible within the exhibition space. Humidity-control granules help passively regulate the relative humidity inside the case. The result is effective protection combined with maximum visual restraint, keeping the historical object firmly at the centre of attention.

For this project, construction and installation had to follow a clearly defined sequence. For us, the quality of the solution lies in the fact that almost none of this remains visible in the finished exhibition space.
